Training cum input distribution for Bee-keeping to Mizo farmers at ICAR Mizoram centre, Kolasib under TSP
A training programme cum input distribution for beekeeping was conducted on 9th May, 2019 at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib-Mizoram under Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) project titled “Popularization of bee-keeping for livelihood improvement of Mizo farmers”. The programme started with the welcome address by Mr. Yengkhom Bijen Kumar, Scientist, ICAR, Mizoram centre. The one day programme emphasized on various aspect of bee-keeping for livelihood improvement of mizo farmers. Both theory and practical sessions were conducted with queries and doubts answered by the experts. The main objective of the programme was to improve the farmers’ knowledge on scientific beekeeping and to encourage them to undertake this venture for their livelihood improvement. A total of 15 selected farmers participated. Various inputs of beekeeping such as bee-box, protective gears, honey extractors, honeybee colony were distributed to the beekeepers. In her conclusion remark, Dr. I. Shakuntala, Joint Director, ICAR, Mizoram Centre appreciated the farmers for their interest in beekeeping which will help in increasing honey bee products and crop production through adoption of modern technologies on beekeeping in Mizoram.The programme was coordinated by Mr. Yengkhom Bijen Kumar (Scientist, Agril. Chemistry), Mr. P.L. Lalrinsanga (Scientist, Fisheries) and Dr. I. Shakuntala (Joint Director, ICAR, Mizoram Centre).
